“Person of the Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flânerie” featured work by more than 50 international artists whose art captured different facets of city life, presented both in the gallery and on the streets. Vito Acconci’s “Following Piece” (1969) was choses as the visual touchstone for the concept of flânerie underlying the curation of the show. Formal elements of this work were echoed in use of seemingly “default” typography, handwriting, and a spontaneous and energetic cut and paste approach to layout. The use of black, white and red throughout the suite served both to visually unify the numerous different works presented in the brochure, and to minimize production costs.
